Music
Music is important for helping children develop confidence by being given the opportunity to creatively express themselves in different ways. At TGPAL, we believe that all children should be given the opportunity to experience a live music performance, learn to play a musical instrument and listen to, create and perform their own music. All of our children learn to play the ukulele in Year 4. There are also opportunities for children to participate in peripatetic lessons at school.
Why we use Sing Up Music: Sing Up aims for every child to have access to high-quality, practical and engaging musical experiences. For all children to develop the self-confidence, skills, knowledge, and understanding to develop a lifelong love of music. Sing Up provides high-quality teaching resources that are perfect for our children including our SEND children.
Sing Up Music is designed and written by subject specialists. It sets out skills, knowledge, and understanding to be gained by all pupils at each stage of learning including Early Years and the Foundation Stage. It is complete with extensive progressive resources that meets the requirements of the National Curriculum for Music, the suggested approaches of the Model Music Curriculum, as well as the Statutory Framework for Early Years Foundation Stage and Musical Development Matters. In addition to this, this chosen curriculum draws upon a broad range of musical traditions, authentic songs and materials. All lessons teach and recap the fundamental elements of music. To ensure a mastery approach to learning, at the start of each music lesson, the children will have flash back questions to revisit previous learning. Teachers will use the ‘I do, We do, You do’ approach.
