Year 1 have been developing their understanding of equal groups by first identifying them and then practising how to create them with their learning partner. Through hands-on activities and discussion, the children explored what it means for groups to be equal and why this is important. We focused on making groups of 2, 3, 4 and 5, giving pupils plenty of opportunities to sort, count and check that each group had the same number. The children showed growing confidence as they worked together, explaining their thinking and checking their work with a partner.
