Looking Closely at Our Pansies

We looked carefully at real pansies and talked about what we could see. We found four main parts of the plant:

• Roots
• Stem
• Leaves
• Flowers

We labelled these parts and used our scientific skills to observe colours, shapes and sizes.

📱 Researching with iPads

Next, we used our iPads to research what each part of the plant does. We visited child‑friendly science websites to help us understand. We learned some amazing facts!

What Does Each Part Do?

Roots

• Grow underground
• Hold the plant firmly in the soil
• Take in water and nutrients to help the plant grow

Stem

• Holds the plant up straight
• Carries water and nutrients from the roots to the rest of the plant

Leaves

• Capture sunlight
• Make food for the plant using air, water and sunlight (this is called photosynthesis!)

Flowers

• Help the plant make seeds
• Attract insects like bees and butterflies

Showing What We Know

We shared our learning by:

• Drawing and labelling a pansy
• Writing sentences about each plant part
• Talking like scientists and using new vocabulary

We loved learning about plants and using real-life flowers to help us understand science. The pansies made learning colourful and fun, and we are excited to keep exploring the natural world!
