This term, Year 3 have had the exciting opportunity to delve into the fascinating world of fossils. Thanks to the generous support of the Lapworth Museum at the University of Birmingham, we were able to borrow a loan box filled with real and replica fossils—some dating back millions of years!

The children were thrilled to handle these precious objects, sparking curiosity and wonder as they imagined the creatures that once roamed the Earth. Through careful observation, they studied the textures, shapes, and patterns of the fossils, and created detailed drawings to record their findings.

This hands-on experience brought our science curriculum to life, helping pupils to understand how fossils are formed and what they can tell us about prehistoric life. It also encouraged thoughtful discussion, questioning, and a deeper appreciation for the natural history of our planet.

The Lapworth Museum is free to enter and open on Saturdays (with free parking at the University). It is also open in the the half term holiday – a great free family trip (Parking isn’t available on week days but University train station is near by). It is well worth a visit.
