Linked to our RE unit on Islam, the children visited The Olton Project.

It is so lovely and beneficial to be able to take children to places of worship, it gives them a sense or understanding, promotes tolerance and openness and allows them to see a vital part of some of their peers’ lives.

The children started by following the rules of entering the mosque by taking their shoes off, ensuring that the prayer rooms stay clean. The day consisted of them being split into three groups: one to look at Islamic structural design and art (which can be seen throughout the building), another group learning about wudu which is a ritual of washing performed by Muslims before prayer to ensure purity and cleanliness, the third group used clues in the prayer room to answer questions- in this room, they also saw a large mosaic designed and made by Mrs Habib.

The trip was amazing and supported the learning we have been doing. the children behaved exceptionally, showing respect, taking part in the activities and asking and answering many questions. A special thanks to those children who also took the time to share their knowledge of their religion.
