The Midlands Air Ambulance Charity provided a workshop for year 6 where they learnt about the chairty, how the charity helps us, how to perform CPR and what to do if someone suppers a critical bleed. The children learnt that mouth-to-mouth resuscitation or rescue breaths are no longer used, the aim is to keep the heart pumping until help arrives.

The Midlands Air Ambulance Charity receive no money from the Government and are totally reliant on the charity of the public. Every year this charity needs around £16million to enable them to provide life saving services. If you are ever thinking of raising money, or donating to a good cause, please consider this charity.

Before perfoming CPR, there are a few things to consider:

If there is an emergency, you have called 999 and asked for an ambulance, the first question you will always be asked is ‘are they breathing?

To check to see if someone is breathing, hover your ear over their nose and mouth, this way you can hear if they are breathing, will feel their breath on your cheek and see if their chest is moving.

To perform CPR: the heel of your hand needs to be on the sternum, kneeling forward and over the person, keep your arms locked and straight and use your body weight to perform the compressions. The heel of your hand should always be in contact with the sternum. Perform the compresions to a steady rhythm.
