After the success of an after-school cycle club, Solihull Council offered to support the school with a further cycling club. We decided to target year 6’s who were either unable to ride a bike or had low confidence in cycling. In doing this, we hoped more year 6’s would be able to access the level 3 Bikeability that takes part in the Summer term.

With 11 girls joining the intensive after school training, 3 of whom could not ride a bike, we now have 11 cyclists. The girls made huge progress and their resilience, determination and team- work were exceptional. A special shout out to Rumaisa who became a cycling teacher and was supporting her peers with tips on how to cycle.

Here at Langley, we have the opportunity for 5 and year 6 to take part in the Bikeability programme. Every year, the children who take part have a great time and it is one of the activities they talk about repeatedly.

With this in mind, we implore all children to learn to ride a bike, the younger the better. Not only is it a life-long skill, it is also a great family activity that promotes health and fitness as well and fun and laughter.
