This term in Year 5 Design and Technology, we’ve been learning all about structures, focusing on different types of bridges, including arch, truss, and beam bridges. To explore how they work, we experimented with spaghetti to test shapes and understand how tension and compression affect strength. We then planned and built our own bridges using lollipop sticks. The results were incredible, with the children showing great imagination and teamwork to create a range of strong and intricate structures. It was a fantastic hands-on project that taught us the importance of planning, problem-solving, and perseverance—perhaps inspiring some future engineers along the way!
